Brighton Ruby 2024 was nothing short of amazing. It brought together passionate Ruby developers from around the world to share knowledge, network, and have fun.
Andy Croll kicked off the day with a warm welcome, setting the tone for an engaging and inspiring event. One of my favourite talks was Nicky Thompson’s “Making Work (& Life) Less Stressful by Making Better Decisions.” I thought Nicky’s practical strategies for reducing stress through better decision-making were highly relevant and helpful.
Nadia Odunayo’s talk on scaling her Rails app, The Story Graph, to two million users with a small Ruby on Rails development team was incredibly inspiring. Karen Jex provided invaluable tips on troubleshooting Postgres database issues, while Chris Oliver’s session on translating complex concepts into elegant code highlighted the importance of disciplined refactoring and user-friendly Rails APIs.
The conference featured a great mix of Ruby-focused discussions and broader topics. Mohamed Hassan’s talk on SQLite in Ruby applications and Daniel Vartanov’s exploration of Ractors showcased Ruby’s versatility.
The day was perfectly complemented by networking breaks, delicious food, and an ice cream treat, providing ample opportunities to connect with fellow attendees.
Brighton Ruby 2024 was a resounding success, thanks to the fantastic speakers, well-organised sessions, and the vibrant community — a big thank you to Andy Croll for creating such a memorable event. We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again next year!
